Mohan Shenoi Residence

Client: Mohan Shenoi

A 5,000 sq ft residence in Mumbai for Mohan Shenoi, formerly Director at Kotak Mahindra Prime and Head of Retail Segment at ICICI Bank. The brief called for spaces of quiet authority — rooms that work as well for large family gatherings as for solitary evenings.

The material palette is warm and restrained. Proportions are generous without being excessive. The apartment reads as the home of someone who has earned their comfort and wears it without display.

A few years on and nothing has been rearranged to accommodate daily life, because daily life was what it was designed around. The surfaces have picked up the slight wear that separates a home from a show flat.

The prayer room — gold-framed glass doors with arched cutouts, marble and hexagonal tile floor, the deities lit from within. Treated as a room of its own, not an alcove.
