MBA Hostel Towers — ITM

Client: Institute of Technology and Management

This twin hostel building — 11 floors and 16 floors each — provides each student with a handsomely furnished private living area and bath, plus a shared study space. Students also share access to a beautiful podium with comfortable lounges, a computer lab, gym facility, and common study rooms.

The facility was created to accommodate growing enrollment at Institute of Technology and Management, one of Mumbai's respected colleges offering degrees in Business Management, Hospitality, and Engineering.

Student accommodation at this scale risks becoming anonymous. The design resists this through careful treatment of the common spaces — the ground-floor courtyard, the sky terraces at alternate floors, the social kitchen alcoves — that give each resident a sense of neighbourhood within the larger building.

Twin hostel towers of 11 and 16 floors in Mumbai, providing each of the 600 students with a private furnished room — and the whole community with a courtyard, computer lab, gym, and social kitchen alcoves that resist the anonymity of large-scale student housing.

Sky terraces at alternate floors and ground-level courtyards give each resident a sense of neighbourhood within the larger building — the quality that defines student life at its best.
