15,000 sq ft Bungalow, Alibaug

← Portfolio

A private bungalow in Alibaug for a client who travels widely and lives deliberately. At 15,000 sq ft the brief was generous but undemanding — the client asked only for spaces that settle into the landscape without demanding attention.

The design reflects an ease of occupation. Rooms open to the outside in multiple directions, light moves through the day, and the distinction between inside and outside is consistently softened. A home that holds its occupant lightly.

The finished house looks like it picked its spot rather than was placed on it. The overhangs do their job quietly. That was the brief, and the building keeps its end of the bargain.

A 15,000 sq ft private residence in Alibaug — designed for a client who travels widely and asked only for spaces that feel easy to inhabit.

The completed front elevation — stone cladding, angled roof planes, timber fins framing the upper openings. The garden was planted in the drawings before the building existed.
The dining room — a long table, a cluster of pendants overhead, the client's own art on the wall. The room already has a life to it.
The entrance porch — a Buddha figure, stone benches, a solid timber door. A moment of stillness before the house begins.

The main living room — vaulted timber-beam ceiling, large glazed doors opening fully to the garden. Inside and outside read as one room.
The pool terrace under a timber-slatted pergola — outdoor seating, a fire pit, water alongside. Given the same consideration as any interior room.
During construction, Awas, 2024. The coconut palms on site were a constraint from the start — the building was planned around them.
The arrival — a long car porch under a sloping timber-and-steel canopy, planting on both sides. The approach to the house was given as much thought as the house itself.
