Glass Kitchen

Client: Private Client

Using nature as the basis for design — a building must grow, as nature grows, from the inside out. Nature grows from the idea of a seed and reaches out to its surroundings. A building is akin to an organism and mirrors the beauty and complexity of nature.

The client, being a chef herself, wanted to develop a part of the property into a dedicated kitchen facility cum study cum relaxation groove, right opposite an existing swimming pool. The building was designed to be a "no-building" — surrounded by four large trees at four corners with glass walls that embrace the beauty of nature at any given time.

The result is a small structure with an outsized relationship to its site: from inside, the four trees become the walls, and the garden beyond becomes the room. The kitchen operates as much outdoors as in, with operable glass panels that dissolve the boundary entirely when the weather allows.
