Gokul Cultural Centre
The Kanada community wanted to redevelop a plot that housed an existing temple and marriage hall with a multi-storey building that utilises the FSI potential of the site. Keeping the sensitivity of the devotees and the people associated with it in mind, the new building aligns itself to the axis of the new temple and is designed to look both traditional and modern.
The building houses air-conditioned marriage halls, dining spaces, a dance academy, other training rooms, administrative offices, and a guest house with fully equipped bedrooms on the top floor.
The project posed a particular challenge: honouring the religious and community significance of the original temple while accommodating a contemporary mixed-use programme within a single cohesive architectural language. The solution carefully layers the secular and sacred so that each is enhanced by proximity to the other.
