A 5,000 sq ft residence in Mumbai. The brief called for spaces of quiet authority — rooms that work as well for large family gatherings as for solitary evenings.

The Approach

The material palette is warm and restrained. Proportions are generous without being excessive. The apartment reads as the home of someone who has earned their comfort and wears it without display.

The Outcome

A few years on and nothing has been rearranged to accommodate daily life, because daily life was what it was designed around. The surfaces have picked up the slight wear that separates a home from a show flat.

A 5,000 sq ft residence in Mumbai — spaces of quiet authority that work as well for large family gatherings as for solitary evenings.

A bedroom with an unobstructed view of the Mumbai skyline. The window is the design — everything else steps back.
The apartment reads as the home of someone who has earned their comfort and wears it without display.
The prayer room — gold-framed glass doors with arched cutouts, marble and hexagonal tile floor, the deities lit from within. Treated as a room of its own, not an alcove.
The formal sitting room — a green leather sofa, paired white armchairs, a chandelier. A room for guests that doesn't feel stiff.
The master bedroom — quilted upholstered bed, moulded wall panelling, and a geometric inlaid marble floor that anchors the whole room.
A bedroom — upholstered headboard with vertical fluting, a bold teal velvet bench at the foot of the bed. One strong colour note in an otherwise quiet room.
The master bathroom — vessel sinks on a marble counter, dramatic stone-vein wall behind the glass shower. The bathroom was given no less consideration than any other room.
